Nestled in the heart of a cozy Cambridge neighborhood, Paddy's Lunch stands as a beloved local bar with a rich history and an inviting atmosphere that feels like a true home away from home. Established shortly after Prohibition and nearing its 90th anniversary, this quintessential dive bar masterfully blends a strong Irish heritage with the warmth and camaraderie of a neighborhood gathering spot.
From the moment you step inside, you’re embraced by an unpretentious, clean, and warmly welcoming space where everyone truly knows your name. Customers like Zuleka Queen-Postell describe the vibe as reminiscent of “Cheers,” where strangers quickly become friends and the community spirit is palpable. It’s the kind of place where even a first-time visitor feels right at home, drawn in by the genuine friendliness of the staff and patrons alike—especially the gracious owner, Ruth, who adds a personal touch to every visit.
Despite its name, Paddy's Lunch focuses entirely on drinks, serving up some of the cheapest beers and cocktails in the area without sacrificing quality. The low-key, unpretentious atmosphere makes it an ideal spot to unwind after a long day, catch a lively sports game, or strike up a conversation with local Cantabrigians. As Cai Davis (Max) points out, it’s a perfect place to meet new friends, sip affordable drinks, and soak in a relaxed vibe that’s hard to find elsewhere.
The bar also actively supports local community events and recreation leagues, fostering a genuine connection with its neighborhood and its clientele. With a dog-friendly policy and a reputation for being warmly inclusive, Paddy’s Lunch isn’t just a bar—it’s a vital part of the community fabric.
For anyone craving an authentic dive bar experience filled with history, character, and undeniable charm, Paddy's Lunch delivers in spades. It’s a small, unassuming gem where the essence of Irish family heritage lives on, where every nook tells a story, and where you can leave feeling like you’ve found your new favorite spot.
I went to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. It was my first time there, but defiantly won’t be my last. The place was packed. I was the only African American woman there, no one knew me, but I felt like I had just walked in to Cheers you know the place we’re everybody knows you name . Everyone was super friendly and I really had a blast. Can’t wait to go back and chat it up with Ruth the owner.
Cheap drinks and good food! What more could you ask for? This is located in an interesting spot but it certainly a great place to grab a drink and meet some local Cantabrigians. The bars atmosphere is very lowkey and inviting so expect to meet some new people! This is a great place to go watch a sports game and drink with friends. Also, the drinks are extremely cheap which is very nice. Note: the bar is cash only but they do have an ATM if you forget to bring cash.
Most Excellent little neighborhood bar. Warm, friendly, legit! We stumbled upon this little gem on a walk about- It's small and basic but we were warmly welcomed. unpretentious, clean, and you cld feel the strong Irish family heritage in every nook.
Great dive bar in the middle of a residential neighborhood between Porter and alewife. Despite the name, they do not serve food. The beer however is cheap, the owner is nice, it's dog friendly, and they support numerous community events and local recreation leagues.
Paddy's Lunch is a quintessential dive bar! Opening the year after prohibition, it's coming up on its 90th birthday. The place is small as are it's prices. However, the history and locals I met there were larger-than-life! If you have a few minutes and a few dollars it's well worth the visit.
Ended up here by accident on NYE— Bartender was so sweet and welcoming, she made sure my friend was safe, had water etc. We ended up staying through midnight and making some new friends. Beautiful start to the year. Thank you Paddy’s!!!!!
